One of the consequences of generative model slop sloshing around the internet is that it’s not nearly as easy as it used to be to find an actually good reference link to include in a piece of writing. Blog posts and technical pages from websites that look like they will be around long enough to be worth linking to are pages behind absolute dogshit.
Who do you blame? The people working at the companies making the tools, or the losers whose idea of passive income hustle/infinite money glitch is to vibe code a bunch of ad-filled websites populated with generated content, and may the loser with the best SEO game win?
I blame both. And I also blame us, because none of this would be popping if we weren’t, in the main, feeding or benefitting from it. All of us with 401ks and index fund investments own a part of this, by the very textbook definition of “own”.
