Uncool

I was having a bad day yesterday. Pretty bad. But I pushed through and did the one chore I wanted to do which is take my bike to a local shop to get the brakes checked before STP.

Everything about the space and the people in it was relaxed and happy and weird and wholesome. The place was content to be itself, however it looked, and the people were content to be themselves, however they looked. Neither shop nor people looked like they worried about how they came off, or whether they were correct, or whether they had ever known pretension. I know how idealistic that sounds and how deceiving appearances can be, but a lot of it felt real. I was there for about an hour and it changed my entire day.

It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, one I hadn’t thought of in such a long time

The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool.

There’s nothing in the world like being around people who are genuine and unpretentious. Who share things when they’re uncool.
